The Project

El Tecuán is a small, rural village in the Yoro District of Honduras. It already had a water system, but it was malfunctioning and could not provide enough water to the village. Engineers Without Borders at Northeastern University adopted the project and sent an assessment team to Honduras in August 2005. Upon return to Boston, the team began evaluating solutions to El Tecuán’s water shortage. It determined that a transmission main needed to be replaced with larger-diameter pipe to increase flow. EWB-Northeastern returned in the spring of 2006. Working with the community, trenches were dug, pipes were laid, and clogs removed. Now El Tecuán’s 33 families all have reliable, running water.
